Here's a breakdown of how different engine options fair with Chevy Silverado towing capacity.

With a powerful 277-horsepower Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six turbo-diesel, the Silverado 1500 towing capacity is a maximum of 9,300 pounds. Increasing that number to 13,300 pounds requires an upgrade to the 420-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine.

If you don't need as much towing capacity as the 6.2-liter V-8 provides, consider the 4.3L V6 instead. This standard option makes 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque to tow up to 7,900 pounds.

Or consider the 2.7L Turbo Engine with 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque to get that capacity up to 9,600 pounds. Improve to 11,500 pounds with the 5.3L V8 engine with Direct Fuel Management with its 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Either way, you'll love the payload capacity of 2,280 pounds.

Silverado 1500 Towing Features

What you do with all that towing power is up to you, but you could expand on all the Silverado's features with a few optional packages.

For example, Chevy's Trailering Package, which comes Standard for the Silverado 1500 includes the following:

●     Trailering hitch platform and 2-inch receiver

●     4-pin connector

●     Automatic locking rear differential

●     7-wire harness with a 7-way sealed connector

Choose the Optional Max Trailering Package (available for select trims) and you get the standard trailering package, of course, but also the following additions of the Handling/Trailering Suspension Package as well. That includes revised shock tuning and upgraded rear spring. Optional Tow Mirrors are another great addition that lets you see more clearly via a set of extended view towing mirrors.
